Some of the best value to be had in the world of vintage watches is in vintage Seiko.

From hardy divers to slim dress watches, the Japanese brand’s mid-20th century output was incredibly robust, with so many excellent gems having left the company’s factories that it can be difficult to keep track of them all. Many are intimately familiar with the “62MAS” diver, a beautifully proportioned 37mm automatic tool watch from the 1960s. Much less sought after is the Reference 7625-8233 — a watch that deserves your intimate attention.

Dubbed the “Baby 62MAS” by collectors for its similar handset, the 7625-8233 is also an automatic sports watch from the 1960s. And though it lacks the rotating dive bezel of the 62MAS, it still features plenty of attributes that endear it to the Seiko collector community: Namely, a 38mm steel case, a highly legible dial, and — often — an excellent, matching bracelet among them.

This particular Reference 7625-8233 is a perfect everyday watch: Housed in a 38mm stainless steel case with a domed acrylic crystal, a smooth bezel, and a captive crown, it features a handsome grey ‘crosshair’ dial with an outer minute track, applied indices, a lumed ‘baton’ handset, and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. Powered by the Seiko Calibre 7625D automatic movement with 17 jewels, it comes paired to a steel ‘beads of rice’ bracelet.

With its good looks, comfortable sizing, excellent bracelet and affordable price, the Reference 7625-8233 “Baby 62MAS” is an lovable, under-the-radar potential addition to any respectable watch collection. We know you’ll love it as much as we do!
